The Earthquake in Nepal 25th April 2015
The earthquake registered 7.9 on the Richter Scale, and its epicentre was about 80km to the northwest of Kathmandu. It caused serious damage in the capital where hundreds of people died, older buildings were destroyed, including the historical monuments in and around Durbar Square. The Czech volunteers who were in Nepal at the time were all safe and sound. We received messages from our project areas (The Smile from Nepal); they are also doing well, however, some of their houses were badly damaged. However, there remain concerns about aftershocks which have been reaching magnitudes of up to 4-7 on the Richter scale.
